- Owners want to restore historic bank in Sale to its former glory
The owners of a historic former bank in the heart of Sale have applied for permission to restore its upper floors to their former glory. Plans to renovate the first and second floors of the Grade II-listed building once occupied by Lloyds Bank on the corner of School Road and Tatton Road have been submitted to Trafford council’s planning portal. Most recently, the building, dating back to 1902, was the home of a law firm and the ground floor is now a Gail’s Bakery outlet, which launched in November. The building is owned by TIC Group Ltd, a Sale-based family run property company which manages residential and commercial premises across Greater Manchester. Two of its directors are Thomas and Max Shillito. Thomas said: “Our aim is to preserve everything that’s there. We want to restore the original, historic features to create serviced offices. We want to make it modern meets old.” An image of the Lloyds Bank building when it was built in 1902. Image: Trafford council's planning portal Max added: “We want to return it to its original glory. It’s fascinating when you see the layout of the offices as they are, because it’s very much as it was when it was Lloyds Bank. And you can tell which office was the bank manager’s, because it’s biggest. “There’s a lot of wood panelling that’s been painted over, and we want to bring it back to how it was.” See full article at Manchester Evening News; https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/owners-want-restore-historic-bank-30926149
- Copperfields, Clamhunger Lane, Mere for sale at £3.625m
After two decades of calling Clamhunger Lane home, Wayne Shillito, his wife Debi, and their two sons are bidding farewell to a home that has been a labour of love. Nestled in one of Mere’s most tranquil and private spots, this property is a blend of original 1950s charm and modern luxury. Wayne says: 'The central section of the house is original, but we’ve carried out numerous extensions and refurbishments over the past 20 years, with our final one completed a few months ago.' These thoughtful upgrades reflect not only the growth of their family but the changing needs and desires of modern living. The result? A bright, contemporary home in mature grounds, ideal for a new family to enjoy. One of the unique highlights of this property is its proximity to The Mere Golf Resort & Spa. 'We back onto the 16th hole and due to its dog-legged layout you can watch golfers play the entire hole,' says Wayne, who has spent countless afternoons watching golfers tee off and putt out from the comfort of the property’s first-floor balcony. ‘It’s one of the quietest, most secluded spots in Mere; perfect for enjoying a coffee or glass of wine.’ For Wayne and his family, all keen golfers and club members, the convenience of living just steps from the course and spa was priceless. ‘I never had to drive to the club. It’s a five-minute walk from the garden, and my wife and I would stroll over to events, parties and dinners there. The boys too could walk to the gym and spa in the evenings with no safety concerns.’ Although the Shillito family have now moved to a new property nearby, they look back on their time at Copperfields with fond memories. ‘We loved living here – just a couple of miles from Knutsford and only five miles to Hale – yet it feels completely private and rural, which is why we have never moved from Mere since we arrived 30 years ago.' As the Shillito family move on, they leave behind a property that’s ready for its next chapter. 'It’s like a brand-new home but with none of the risks of settling or the snagging issues you get. If you want to live in Mere, backing onto the new luxury Mere Resort and Spa currently undergoing a £100m refurbishment, here it is; a beautiful blank canvas,' Wayne says proudly. ‘All the hard work has been done, whoever moves in can just make it their own.’ For those seeking a serene yet connected lifestyle, in the heart of Mere, this beautifully refurbished home could be the perfect fit. Copperfields is for sale for £3.625m through Thornley Groves, thornleygroves.co.uk . - GAIL's opens sixth site in the North as it takes over former bank building
It is hard to believe that almost two years ago, there wasn’t a single GAIL’s bakery in the North. But this month, the popular craft bakery chain has just opened its sixth site in this part of the country - choosing a Trafford town as its next destination following success in the likes of Wilmslow and Didsbury . Housed in the former Lloyds Bank on School Road in Sale , the bakery is situated near to the Stanley Square shopping centre and Sale Town Hall, and features much of what it has already become renowned for. Having started life in the early 1990s in London by Yael ‘Gail’ Mejia as a premium wholesale bakery, GAIL’s has gone from strength to strength after joining forces with Tom Molnar in 2003 to expand in local neighbourhoods. The bakery has become known for its chef-quality baking spanning across breads, cakes, pastries, sandwiches and other baked treats. And to coincide with its Sale opening, there is a new menu of Autumn treats to taste too. Now their second Trafford site, following the opening of its Altrincham store in March last year near Altrincham Market, the Sale spot includes an eat-in area as well as a pantry and fridge selling jams, spreads, biscuits, cured meats, eggs and other fresh produce to takeaway. Its arrival was first announced in October, with news of a further GAIL’s site in the former NatWest bank in Prestwich confirmed a month later after months of local speculation. GAIL's is on 16 School Road, Sale, M33 7XP.
